VETERAN POWERLIFTER SIGNS WITH SMWW
Jonna
Ocampo, a world-class competitor with a combined 25-years experience in powerlifting and figure and fitness events, has signed
an athlete representation contract with Sports Management Worldwide of Portland, Oregon.
The 5-foot, 39-year-old
resident of Kapolei, Hawaii, was among nine women, and more than 5,000 registered athletes, selected by USA Powerlifting to
compete in the North American Powerlifting Federation Pan-American and North American Regional Championships on August 6-8
in Miami, Florida.
Ocampo competes on the first morning of the event in the women’s
48-kilogram (105 pounds) class.
Among the accomplishments of her 12-year powerlifting
career was helping Team USA capture the gold medal at the 2006 International Powerlifting Federation World Championships in
Stavanger, Norway, and claim the bronze medal at the 2007 Pan-Am Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
She placed ninth
individually in the 48-kg class in the 2006 worlds and she earned third place in 2007.
The alumna of New Jersey’s
Fairleigh Dickinson University captured the overall 48-kg title in the 2005 North American Championships in Miami, where she
also set international records in her class for the squat (115 kg, or 257 pounds) and deadlift (130 kg/286 lbs).
Her
13-year career as a figure and fitness athlete includes being the only American entry in the 2008 Ms. Figure Universe in Petersberg,
Germany, where she placed fourth in the aerobic division.
Ocampo is a two-time Ms. Figure America overall champion
(1996 in Westchester, New York and 2007 in Middleton, Pennsylvania) and is currently ranked by the National Physique Committee
among the top 1 percent of female figure and fitness athletes in the United States.
